Founder/Manager of tailoring company pledges non-medical masks to local Law enforcers

Joies Tailoring Ltd, a 100% nationally owned fashion design company recently pledged to donate 500 non-medical face-masks to NCDC’s Police command during the State of Emergency curfew period.

Janet Sios, Director and Founder of PNG’s Fashion and Design Week and owner of Joies Tailoring Limited says that there is a short supply for face and hand covering equipment during the lockdown periods as the rest of the whole world is going through. Her Tailoring SME is now taking the lead and becoming a solution in providing alternative face-masks to corporate and individual households in the country.

The opportunity came about when several customers enquired about the possibility of Joie’s making and selling masks to cater for their current pandemic needs. “Upon learning about this, rather than looking at the negativities on this current COVID-19 Pandemic, we focused on what mattered and we decided to produce something that can protect our people as well as keep us going as a corporate entity.” Said Sios.

“My staff suggested alternative facial protection for our people, especially our frontline workers who do not have the appropriate equipment to go out there and do their jobs.” She added.

Joies tailoring had a courtesy visit by NCD/Central Police Commander Tony Wagambie and his team in the middle of April where the team inspected the masks on offer and the firm’s capacity to produce. During the inspection, Janet and her tailoring team pledged to sew and donate 500 face-masks to the Command for their State of Emergency Curfew Duties as per the firm’s corporate social responsibility to the country.

With the current PPE standards recommended by CDC-Atlanta for COVID-19, these masks however are subject to constant improvements and serves as alternatives with more durability compared to the usual medical masks.

“The good thing is that my staffs have designed these alternative masks with breathable and washable material so the user can wear it again for at least two weeks and permanently dispose it.”.

Joies Tailoring is a 100% nationally owned Fashion and design production, supplier and consultancy company with 14 years track record in the PNG garment manufacturing industry. The firm prides itself in its unique garment designs and helps connect designers to the customers or vice versa and the capacity to produce in large quantities.
