The Department for Community Development and Religion is focusing on addressing social issues affecting people in the remote parts of Papua New Guinea.

In welcoming the new Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development Hon. Wake Goi, Secretary Anna Solomon said “If we can change the remote places, we certainly can change Papua New Guinea. If we cannot change the remote places, we are far way back.”

“The Minister and I will ensure to address issues eating away the potentials of people at the village level through our established District Community Development Centre (DCDC) programs together with other plans and policies,” Solomon says.

“The department is like a family unit where we look at women, youth, disability, elderly and children.

“And the big activity that family’s are involved in is the informal economy and the big service provider in the villages is the church, where the department is spearheading,” she extended.

Minister Hon. Wake Goi assured all the Ministerial Heads and department’s staff that “We must work smart, think big and work hard to really put people at the centre of the work we are doing.”

“We must put God first, people second and ourselves third to honestly and accountably serve the interest of the people and to put them at the centre of our developmental programs and policies,” Minister Goi said.

“I am so happy to work co-operatively with you (Ministerial agency heads and Department’s staff) as a minister responsible to deliver at the national level.”

Hon. Goi said this during his first meeting with the Ministerial Agency Heads and the staff of the Department for Community Development and Religion (DFCDR) at Waigani Sambra Haus, Port Moresby today.
