It was once the main highway connecting the rest of mainland PNG to Southern Highlands and Hela in the colonial days but was neglected and abandoned once the existing alternative route was constructed.

A strategic economic road link that has become a missing link over the years, gives access to Tambul, the food basket of Mt. Hagen Market and many of their produce make its way to Lae and Port Moresby Markets.

The people living along this road corridor from Imbonggu side have vast rich fertile land that have the potential of agricultural farmlands. Given the proper road infrastructure and you will have access to a food bowl catering not only to PNG but the south pacific.

On Friday 7th August 2020 Minister for Intergovernmental Relations and Member for Imbonggu District Hon. Pila Niningi along with Vice Minister for Treasury and Member for Tambul-Nebilyer Hon. Bakri Daki and Southern Highlands Governor Hon. William Powi officially launched the Tambul road project within the Imbonggu district.

Road work commences immediately after launching and Mr Niningi appealed to my people of Imbonggu and Tambul Nebiliyer who live along the road corridor to support the road construction and maintenance. He asked the locals to refrain from charging compensation instead to give their land freely for the road construction to take place as the road belongs to them and their children’s prosperity.
