Kurumut Primary School gets New Lease on Life

The Kurumut Primary school located in the mountains of Kurumut in the West coast of Namatanai, New Ireland Province has a new lease on life after a new four-in-one classroom and a stylish looking teachers house was built and officially launched on Monday 26 October 2020.

The contractor is Meli builders and construction company, owned by a local from Kolonoboi in the Central LLG. It took four months to build the structures after the area also received an upgraded road up to Rapontamon worth K1.5 million in May this year.

“Displa contractor em yet school long carpenter, ol narapela wok man bilong em ol bush carpenter nogat paper bilong ol. Em directim ol wokman tasol na ol buildim dispela ol building” said spokesman Daniel Toguria.

Education Director Benson Apelis congratulated the contractor for delivering the outstanding infrastructure within budget and on time. He urged the community to look after the school properties as if it were their own.

For Governor Sir Julius Chan the isolated backwater is a place that has always been close to his heart. Before entering politics back in 1965 he would always venture there while servicing the area through his shipping company coastal shipping.
