Ambassador of the United States of America to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, H.E. Madam Erin Elizabeth McKee travelled to Popondetta, Oro Province. During the ambassador’s visit, she made time to have a dialogue with 15 youth representatives of Oro from various youth groups and existing Local Youth Development Councils.
The youth shared a snapshot of youth development challenges in Good Governance, Leadership, Gender Equality, Culture, Youth in Economic Development and Education. During their presentation, recommendations were also made to the Ambassador and stakeholders for youth development in the country.
Ambassador McKee commended the youth of Oro for proposing recommendations as solutions to their development issues on the ground and highlighted in her statements that having the voice of youth is important as it is not only to address the issues for today but to resolve challenges that may occur in future. She also explained the priorities of the embassy is focused on and how this can be tailored to practical outcomes on the ground for youth.
The National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) through the it’s International Relations section and Programs and Extension Services branch will follow through with the US Embassy and the Provincial Government to deliver on the outcomes of the National Youth Policy 2020-2030, bilateral agreements and youth development plans that are set for next year and onwards.
