New Police Post for Koki Market

Moresby South MP Hon. Justin Tkatchenko on Thrusday 22 April 2021 officiated a ground-breaking ceremony for a new police post that will serve the residents of Koki Market ward in Moresby South and surrounding wards in the district.

Present at the launching was NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop, Assistant Commissioner for NCD and Central Province Police Command, Anthony Wagambi, community leaders and local residents of Koki Market area.

According to Minster Tketchenko, the new police post will accommodate immediate needs of district police officers and establish safety in the area.

“The post will have holding cells, toilets, showers, counter and an office that will serve the police and managed by the district commander to ensure there is peace” said Minister Tketchenko.

Minister Tketchenko encouraged the residents of Koki as well as the delegates and media to work together as he recalled the past experiences of law and order in the province.

“I’m sure all of you don’t want to go back to the times before where we have curfews and COVID 19 guidelines affecting our economic movements but remember that law and order is a partnership between the police, the people and the commissioner“ he continued.

Speaking at the event also was NCD Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambi Jnr emphasizing the growing needs for the economy and law and order in Moresby South.

“This police post will not only serve Koki but the whole city as well since the area contains markets and shopping centres” said Mr Wagambie.

Wagambi expressed his gratitude for the new police post and further elaborated on the slow but steady improvements undertaken by the PNG police.

“In partnership with our Met Superintendent and Zone Commanders, we are working our way forward to make policing service a more community oriented approach.” “This means our police will work closely with the community and do zone patrols so that there is efficiency in movement to address issues taking place.”

Governor Parkop gave his final remarks at the ceremony emphasizing the importance of having a peaceful and secured city.

“We must understand that security is paramount to everything, it is importance our families, businesses, schools, informal economies and our daily lives. Without peace and security, there will be no development and stable future for us to give to our upcoming children.” said Governor Parkop.

“This is the equation for my vision, which is to build an amazing city for ourselves and our country by making it safe and peaceful. This is the foundation to our success and prosperity.”

The Governor further stated that addressing issues pertaining to the police is equally important among his many incentive supports such as urban youth, TVET, School subsidies and sports.

Parkop also mentioned the costs and requirements to make the groundbreaking a success.

“This new police post will cost around K900,000. Our Minister for Moresby south and I will contribute funds the make this happen.”He says.
