The PNG Department for Community Development and Religion today invited 15 NCD-based retired public servants to represent the National Retired Workers and participated in a Survey and Data Collection exercise. The goal of the survey was to collect reliable data to verify and better analysis in establishing standard-based systems in the provinces.

Acting Secretary Mr. Jerry Ubase in his opening remarks thanked the participants for their services to the country and highlighted the purpose of the survey. He said the department is committed to move out to other parts of the country to collect information, so far as welfare of senior citizens is a concern.

Retired PNG Defense Force Mr. Jones Mesa acknowledge the Department for the initiative and believes that the survey exercise is the way forward in recognizing the efforts of senior citizens.

Mr Mesa saying, “in colonial days it was so difficult in terms of pay and other necessary employment packages but we faithfully served the country and government must not totally forget us.”

The retired workers participated in many activities including group discussions, filling up survey questionnaires and question/answer sessions.

The survey team from the department headed by Acting First Assistant Secretary for Religion, Elderly and Disability Sections Mr. Peter Meck and Assistant Secretary for Elderly Section Ms. Jenny Kiap are looking forward to extend the survey exercise to Momase and NGI regions.
