Pawarim Komuniti in rural Morobe

Communities living in rural areas of Morobe Province will soon not only have access to clean water and basic toilets but also an exciting new off-grid electrification project that looks to deliver lighting to water stations in a number of communities.

The ‘Lighting Up Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)’ project will install 210 solar street lighting systems and 60 indoor lighting systems over the next 12 months.

The Environmental Health Development Agency will deliver the project through the Pawarim Komuniti Program.

Pawarim Komuniti, is a new Off-Grid Electrification Program funded by the PNG-Australia Partnership to support access to clean energy in rural and remote communities in Papua New Guinea (PNG). The program is part of Australia’s commitment under the PNG Electrification Partnership to help PNG meet the target of connecting 70% of the country to electricity by 2030.

The project seeks to improve community safety, comfort and health outcomes, especially for women and girls.
