The National Soccer League secretariat made the announcement wanting the Papua New Guinea premier soccer competition to resume on August 1 following a meeting with the NSL Board this week.

The NSL has taken another step towards its season restart, revealing that the competition will run for ten weekends and if no further distruptions with the finals schedule for October 3.

NSL acting manager Dimirit Mileng said the NSL Board is very mindful and taking into consideration the FIFA President’s message to all 211 Member Association that human life is paramount in everything we do in football.

“Therefore, the two months leading into the kick off date, clubs must use this period well to prepare the players and officials in both physically, mentally and that their health status are clearly identified,” Mileng said.

“PNGFA has developed a COVID 19 Protocol document in-line with the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation “Return to Sport” document, which is being presented to the SOE Controller.

“Clubs will be informed in the coming weeks to take into consideration various requirements and preventative measures as outlined within this document.”

The SOE Controller has provided Order number 19, which will also assist in preparing for the resumption of the competition.

“It is in the best interests of our clubs, our players, our stakeholders and importantly our fans that the competition resumes as quickly and as safely as possible.

Mileng said the NSL secretariat has been tasked by the Board to find out what are the additional costs involved in putting measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

“This pandemic was never factored into the costs of operations for the season and we hope there are someone our there who could assist with the additional costs, both for the clubs and the competition administration.”
