A Women in News and Sports (WINS) training and mentoring program for female sports journalists from the Asia-Pacific region was recently held in Port Moresby.
The program is run in partnership with DFAT and managed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation International Development (ABCID).
The two-day workshop was attended by women from media and sporting backgrounds. The workshop is aimed at providing skills training and industry knowledge; improving multi-platform content creation (with special focus on women’s sport); and networking with other women in media and sport.
Participants had the opportunity to practice camera/video skills during their outdoor activities with PNG Badminton Association and the League Bilong Laif team.

Workshop facilitators Marie Sakumai and Waliagai Olewale thanked the women for attending WINS workshop and encourage the women to use the knowledge they have gained to enhance the quality of their work in the male-dominated world of sports media.
The women each received a certificate of participation presented by Kristie Brown, Second Secretary, Program Strategy & Gender, DFAT.
