OFP hosts International Title Fight
Sir John Guise indoor complex in Port Moresby came alive on the evening of Sunday April 25 with Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP) showcasing some of PNG’s top boxing talent.
It began with six (6) local under card professional fights ranging between the super flyweight 52kg division to the light heavyweight 79kg division.
All 6 fights didn’t disappoint with local boxing fans being entertained to up and coming home grown talent setting the stage for the two international fights.
The first of the two international fights was between (Philippines) Mark Sales and (PNG) Andrew Aisanga in the International Under card bout. Mark Sales the more experienced fighter however Aisanga had the height and youth advantage which he made full use of coming home with his first international victory.
Prime Minister Marape a keen follower of PNG boxing was on hand to officiate the main event which saw (Philippines) Roldan Aldea take on (PNG) Junior Raka for the Super Featherweight belt. Aldea with a professional record of 24 fights, 15 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw, up against Raka with 2 professional fights and 2 wins; the odds clearly stacked against Raka who had to prove himself in the ring.
The opening rounds saw Raka showcasing his power with ferocious punching but Aldea’s experience took over picking out his shots and staying well clear of Raka’s lethal reach. Raka maintaining his attack with each round but couldn’t outstep Aldea’s dancing.
In the end it came down to the judges awarding a close but unanimous decision to Roldan Aldea claiming the WBA Asia Pacific Super Featherweight belt. Raka although disappointed with the loss has 3 months to prepare his revenge as talk of a rematch is already on the cards which Aldea will need to defend the belt.
