US-based defender Lucy Maino has been selected to co-captain the PNG women side to the Pacific Games alongside veteran Deslyn Siniu and Sandra Birum.
“To me to be given the co-captains role alongside Deslyn and Sandra is a big achievement. I am so proud to fly my country’s flag at the Pacific Games and being given the co-captaincy role was something I never expected,”
The Mekeo lass said she had received a lot of support from her teammates and officials.
“I have a lot of responsibility and with the support of everyone it makes me easier to handle all obstacles,” said Maino.
Maino based in USA playing with the UH Hilo Vulcans, says she has been in camp for the last two weeks in Port Moresby, and the spirit is high among the squad members.
“The girls are getting physical and are focused after the two weeks of intensive training.
“We all have scarified for these Games and our aim is to defend the Gold medal and bring it back home,”
Maino believes they have the strength to fulfil that dream.
“Nothing is impossible. Show us the love and we will return it.”
