Team PNG had an official farewell on Tuesday night in the presence of Prime Minister Hon. James Marape.

The Samoa 2019 Pacific Games starts Sunday July 7 and ends July 20. The PM challenged Team Papua New Guinea to give their best at the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.

“When you wear the PNG uniform, you forget your various differences and you come in as one national citizen trying to do the best for your country.

“Your predecessors have done the best for their country and they’ve moved on.

“You are now trying to do your best for your country.”

“If you come last, we will not be offended, it will not matter. We will be offended if you don’t give your best”

“I want you to look into a mirror when you go back tonight, there a 8 billion people in the world none of them are like you, you are unique, tell yourself you have been given the opportunity to do your best for your country, do your best that’s all we ask”

PNG Olympic Committee president Sir John Dawanicura reminded athletes and officials to be good ambassadors of the country, in his farewell address to Team PNG.

“It’s your time to shine in Apia, time to shine again,” he said.

Sir John challenged the athletes to do their best to repeat their successful 2015 performance.

The first chartered plane of athletes and officials leaves for Samoa 2019 Pacific Games today with the second to follow on Friday.

All the best Team PNG!
