James Segeyaro is within sights of one of his career goals – playing finals football with the Brisbane Broncos.
The Broncos have a simple equation – win their last two matches against the Eels and Bulldogs and they are in.
Lose against the Eels this Friday night at Suncorp Stadium, and destiny is no longer in the Broncos’ hands.
But Segeyaro says he can feel how close the team is now to fulfilling what he says is a ‘must’.
“It was one of my goals – I even wrote it down,” he said.
“I really want to play finals footy for the Brisbane Broncos.
“I know what the club has done in the past with premierships, it is an established club and making the finals is a must.
“We have got outstanding players here – I can’t see why we can’t.
“It is in our hands to determine the future and the outcome – it is on how we perform.”
Segeyaro said the type of games you played at this time of year energised the players.
“You are more tired in that middle part (of the season) around Origin,” he said.
“When you come to the back end of the season you are more excited because it is finals-type footy.
“It is faster and a bit more physical.
“But it is a good time of the year to be playing and you get your second wind.
“All the things you have been working on, you have the back end (of the season) to perform them.”
The Broncos are on guard for the Eels, who accounted for them easily back in June.
The addition of winger Blake Ferguson will add power to the Parramatta backline.
“I think ‘Fergo’ is back for them and that will be an incredible boost,” said Segeyaro.
“His kick returns get their forwards on the front foot.”
