PNG defeated Kenya by 45 runs today, and have now gone on to qualify for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia next year after the Netherlands failed to topple PNG from top of Pool A in the Qualifiers.
PNG batted first against Kenya, and at one stage slumped to 6/19 before Norman Vanua saved the innings, and subsequently the game for the Barras. PNG made 118 from 19.3 overs.
Kenya started their innings strongly, but thanks to a highly disciplined bowling and fielding performance, PNG bowled the Kenyans out for 73 by the 18th over, securing their win and then had to await the Netherlands vs Scotland game to see if they would finish top of the pool.
Scotland batted first and made 8/130 off their 20 overs. Netherlands then had to win in under 12.3 overs to dislodge PNG from their No.1 spot in the group A table. That wasn’t to be, and on the third delivery of the 13th over, PNG’s world cup entry was official.
PNG have officially qualified as the 11th team into 2020 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
