23-year-old Kumul and utility half Edwin Ipape, who starred in PNG’s victory over Great Britain last weekend has won a trial with Manly. He will join the Sea Eagles next week for the trials.
Formerly with the Lae Snax Tigers, Ipape played for Wynnum Manly Seagulls in the Queensland Cup last season, earning the title of 2019 junior player of the year in Queensland.
Playing at both halfback and hooker positions, Ipape could potentially be a fill-in for suspended Sea Eagle Manase Fainu.
Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler was impressed with Ipape’s performance in the win over the Lions last weekend and invited him to trial.
Edwin is being supported by Lae Biscuit Company Chairman and Snax Tigers patron Ian Chow, who has helped facilitate this opportunity through his scouting contacts.
