PNG Hunters have kicked off their 2020 season with a come-from-behind win over the Souths Logan Magpies at Davies Park, Brisbane this afternoon with Terry Wapi starring in the second half with a hat-trick.
Magpies scored first with Vaea Vaea getting across early in the half, however Hunters replied with Keven Appo scoring under the posts.
Souths then piled on three more tries to lead 24-6 at half-time.
The Magpies then came out after half-time and extended their lead to 30-6.
The Hunters then came alive with Appo scoring his second, followed by a hat-trick from Terry Wapi within the next 18 minutes, crossing in the 55th, 57th and 73rd minute to even the scores.
At 10 metres out and straight in front, a late hit on the kicker gave PNG a penalty kick which saw Ase Boas successfully kick to win the game for the Hunters, defeating the Magpies 32-30.
PNG Hunters will face Townsville Blackhawks next Sunday 22 March in Round 2 at home, however the game is now thrown in doubt pending urgent discussions between QRL and PNGRFL due to the Corona Virus implications on the competition.
