Locals on the ground have reported increased activity from Mt Ulawun Volcano in West New Britain today. Clouds of ash and apparent lava flow have been observed, with some individuals posting images of the activity on social media.
With thousands of affected villagers still living in care centres since the recent major eruption at the end of June 2019, the fresh volcanic activity is causing concern amongst evacuees, who are facing food shortages, a major worry as the people still fear returning to their abandoned gardens.
