Bouganville Buai, or Buka buai is renowned around the country for its extraordinarily large size, and is much sought after due to it being only accessed from travellers flying in from Bougainville in small quantities. However that will be a thing of the past for residents in Port Moresby, who will now be able to purchase Bouganville Buai in bulk or wholesale thanks to a partnership between the Bougainville Government, Moresby South Electorate and NCD.
Regional Member for Bougainville Hon. Peter Tsiamalili Jr, seeing the demand and the supply available through discussions with the Minister for Housing and Urban Development and Moresby South MP Hon. Justin Tkatchenko will now assist Bougainville farmers especially village mothers ship bags of Buka buai to be sold in bulk at the Kuagere Market.

this week also revealed the Bougainville government’s plans to utilize e-commerce with the introduction of digital applications to enable ARoB famers, SMEs and businesses to establish a direct and wider market presence around the country and partnerships such as the current with Moresby South will enable efficient distribution channels for their products to reach the mainland.
Minister Tkatchenko, praised Governor Tsiamalili Jr for the initiative in financially empowering both the ARoB and Moresby South communities and hopes through such properly managed arrangements will also contribute in improving how betelnut is sold and consumed within the city whilst being a prominent source of incomes for many Papua New Guineans.
