Acting Director for the PNG National Weather Service (NWS) Jimmy Gomoga is urging the public, government departments and businesses to utilise the services NWS provides. Gomoga pointed out that NWS information will be more accurate to use.
Meteorology is critical every where in the world in understanding climate and weather conditions and patterns. In a world where people are adjusting to a new normal, critical data provided by NWS can help medical experts take measures for illnesses like flu and malaria.
PNG’s weather data collection goes as far back as 1908 however the NWS needs to still build on its capacity and infrastructure to go beyond just collecting critical data but contributing to the science of weather and climate in a world already experiencing a new normal with natural disasters and PNG’s socio economic growth and development.
And for those of us still confused about what is happening with Port Moresby’s freak weather conditions. This might explain things a little better.
