H.E. Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea has travelled to Jiwaka province on a four day official visit that ended Friday 21 August 2020.
Grand Chief Sir Bob accompanied by Lady Emeline arrived on Tuesday 18 August 2020 to a rousing welcome from the people of Jiwaka and were received by Governor Hon. Dr. William Tongap and Member for North Waghi Hon. Dr. Fabian Pok and a combined military, police and correctional service guard of honour at the Jiwaka provincial headquarter at Kurumul.
The Governor General and Lady Emeline were later visited by students of Lutheran College and visited Fatima Secondary School.
In his short address upon his arrival, Grand Chief Sir Bob remarked that his visit to Jiwaka as Vice Regal was personally significant because his grandparents had served as Lutheran missionaries in this part of the country many years ago.
Grand Chief Sir Bob commended the efforts of the people of Jiwaka to build their province and in particular public servants and members of the three disciplinary forces serving in the province.
At Fatima Secondary School, the Governor General recounted his personal experience growing up in a rural village and attending school that was several kilometers and 8 hours walk from home.
On Wednesday 19th the Governor General presented the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee commemorative medals to close to 200 recipients at an investiture ceremony held at the grounds of the Jiwaka provincial administration office.
On Thursday the Governor General launched the Jiwaka Gerupeng Festival which will also include a traditional wedding ceremony involving Grand Chief Sir Bob and Lady Emeline.
