“Papua New Guinea is home to 7% of the world’s total biodiversity, which is very impressive as most of its flora and fauna cannot be found anywhere else in the world. PNG is truly blessed with natural resources, diverse cultures and a rich biodiversity which we all have a responsibility to care for. With this comes a bigger challenge and responsibility for us as a country in caring for our natural flora and fauna” highlighted Port Moresby Nature Park General Manager David Thompson.

In conjunction with International Day of Forests on Sunday 21st of March, the Nature Park on Friday commemorated the day with their very own tree planting initiative. This is also carried out as part of the park’s continuous effort towards planting 50,000 trees within NCD.

The theme for 2021 is “Forest restoration: a path to recovery and well-being”.

Port Moresby Nature Park is also working in partnership with global NGO ‘Cities for Forests’ and ‘One Tree Planted’ who committed their support towards the ‘Trees for Life’ campaign, adding they will work together to better understand and improve reforestation works in the city.

The Park educates over 24,000 school children within NCD and Central province every year on protecting wildlife and plants.
