New Controllers Measures for Sports announced

The latest Controllers Measures released on the 12th August 2020, will now come into effect from 17th August 2020 for the rest of the Pandemic period or until otherwise changed by the Controller.

The PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF) still maintains the approval authority for sporting federations to begin training and competitions in the country. The new normal measures of hand washing or sanitizing, social distancing of 1.5m, and other hygienic measures are still mandatory. The new added measures are:

  • No SPECTATORS allowed.
  • No more than 50 persons per field of play.
  • For NCD only – Mask wearing at all sporting fields. Players and officials can remove masks when participating.

Special spectators’ numbers and exceptions for Rugby League, Soccer and Cricket have all been revoked. The no spectators’ law is for ALL sports.

All sports are encouraged to run their competition schedules to reflect the Controllers orders. The Controllers COVID-19 Surveillance and Monitoring team will be out and about to the various competition venues to ensure compliance.

The following sports federations have been granted approval to run their programs around the country with their submitted COVID19 safe protocols.

  • AFL
  • Archery
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Golf
  • Netball
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Volleyball
