The SP PNG Hunters are all set to travel to Queensland this Sunday February 7, 2021.

PNGRFL acting CEO Stanley Hondina in a short media statement said approval to travel was granted by the Queensland Health Authorities early this afternoon.

“It’s great news for us all to finally get the approval for the SP Hunters players and officials to travel to Queensland,” Hondina said. “They will depart Port Moresby in a chartered aircraft for Brisbane at 2pm this Sunday February 7, 2021.”

“ At 5pm this afternoon, as per our application and approval requirement, the travelling party is doing the PCR basic covid testing and will be in isolation for the next 72 hours before they board the flight”

“This is part of the strict requirements they have to fulfil pre travel to Queensland and post arrival in Brisbane,” Hondina said.

He said Prime Minster James Marape, Sports Minister Wesley Raminai and Australian High Commissioner to PNG HE Mr Jon Philip will be at the airport on Sunday at 1pm to farewell the team.

He thanked Prime Minister Hon James Marape and his Government including Sports Minister Wesley Raminai and his office for their support in ensuring this relocation process has been realised. “We’d also like to extend our gratitude to our naming rights sponsors SP Brewery, platinum partners Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd, National Gaming Control Board and all other sponsors/partners,” he said.

“And finally but not the least a very big thanks to the hardworking staff at QRL, Pacific Aus Sport, DFAT, Home Affairs and Australian High Commission.”

On behalf of the SP PNG Hunters Board, staff and players, the PNGRFL Chairman and Board, all of the Rugby League family, we thank you very much for all your support and assistance not only now but into the year as they are based away from home,” Hondina said.
