Kaugere Women Empowered with MSME Support

Whilst officially opening the newly built Kaugere Market today, Minister for Housing and Urbanisation and Moresby South MP Hon. Justin Tkatchenko empowered 48 women’s associations made up of over 2500 registered women within the Kaugere and Sabama area with over K300,000 in seed capital to assist them with their Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) projects.

In attendance to witness the occasion was NCD Governor Parkop and Prime Minister Marape.

Governor Parkop challenged the comminity to make full use of the facilities provided by the government as well as making good return of the funding given to them to start MSME projects.

Prime Minister Marape encouraging urban dwellers to go back to their respective villagers and take advantage of the agricultural opportunities abundant in rural PNG as well as discouraging costly customary practices such as hauskrais.

Speaking to PNGBUZZ TV, Georgina who is a member of the Kaugere Goada Meri Association gave an insight on the mothers that make up the association and how the new market and seed capital empowers them as providers to their families.

To date Port Moresby South has over 24,000 registered women within associations and groups.
