The Baby Broncos came from behind to defeat the Cronulla Sharks 24-22 at Pointsbet Stadium, NSW this afternoon.
PNG Kumul and teen sensation Xavier Coates took only 9 minutes to make his mark, leaping high above Josh Morris to catch a Jake Turpin kick off the right wing to score on debut.
18 year old Coates represented the Kumuls against Samoa in June at centre where he played a classy test debut to kick off his international career. Before that Coates was man of the match for Queensland in last month’s under-18s State of Origin, and starred for Tweed Seagulls in the under-18s final against Illawarra Steelers.
Fellow PNG team mate and Kumul captain James Segeyaro also played his part in the Broncos win, coming on later in the game and making an impact with multiple assists leading to tries for the Brisbane team.
