PNGRFL charts way forward for PNG Rugby League

The PNGRFL has been working with its partners in the sport and the country’s national authorities to chart a way forward to implement a revised 2020 program for rugby league post the COVID 19 and the State of Emergency.

The PNGRFL met with Chief Superintendent Dominic D. Kakas, Team Leader – COVID-19 Media & Public Information Joint Agency Task Force on behalf of the S.O.E Controller, Commander David Manning, last week to present its revised plans for 2020 and the PNGRFL public health guidelines that provide the framework for PNGRFL’s “New Normal” for rugby league in PNG.

The PNGRFL has named the guidelines, the PNGRFL “Banis Protocols”. Chairman of the PNGRFL, Sandis Tsaka said “We are committed to ensuring that the health and safety or our players, staff and the supporters is protected as we prepare to bring the game back to our people.”

The protocols mirror those of the NRL in Australia and has been adapted by the PNGRFL and tailored to the PNG environment.

“We will be engaging with our key stakeholders on the new Banis Protocols beginning next week. It is important that awareness is made and everyone involved in the game know what the processes are, the roles and responsibilities they all hold.”

The rugby league governing body, hopes to have competitions recommence in the next few months and these documents are an integral part of meeting this goal, in conjunction and with the endorsement of the S.O.E Controller’s office.
