The Governments of Japan and Papua New Guinea through an Exchange of Notes in June, 2020 agreed to implement the Japan’s Grant Aid Programme for Economic and Social Development for the provision of various Medical Equipment to Provincial Hospitals around the country.
Through that program medical equipment valued at K30 million has so far been donated.
They includes ten Radiographic systems, one CT Scanner, twelve Bedside x-ray machines, nine Portable Ultrasound Scanners, two Central Monitors, twenty one Portable Ultrasound Image Diagram Systems, twenty Defibrillators, nineteen Electrocardiogram and nineteen Blood Gas Analysers.
The program is coordinated through the Department of National Planning and Monitoring as the recipient on behalf of the Government of PNG which the Department of Health will fully utilize.
The medical equipment will be distributed among all Provincial Hospitals around the country including Port Moresby General Hospital. The medical equipment will be used in hospitals to assist with the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of COVID-19 patients.
A ceremony for the presentation of the equipment took place at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
