PNG U19 Women depart for OFC Championship

The Papua New Guinea U19 Women’s football side finalised preparations in Port Moresby before the team left our shores at 1pm today for the OFC U19 Women’s Championship in the Cook Islands.

Coach Rachael Wadunah today said she was glad to have all her players together in Port Moresby for the final build up.

“We are in our final phase of training here for the past 9 days before we go to Cook Islands and the training has been great.” she said.

Wadunah said the team was preparing well for the championship with morning and afternoon trainings and that it has been so intense.

“We are still working on the team combination but I am confident with the players selected despite the short preparation time.”

“The girls are getting on well and the atmosphere is coming in the camp, the team bonding is great and everyone is looking forward for the tournament,” said Wadunah.

“We are fortunate to have the experience of Asaiso Gossie and Shalom Waida from the Pacific Games joining us.”

“The two players who were part of the senior women’s team have boosted the morale of the team as they have been showing lot of experience and are guiding the new ones well.”

Papua New Guinea is pooled in Group C alongside Tonga and New Caledonia.
