The Governor General, His Excellency Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae in his speech to commemorate PNG’s 40th Remembrance Day emphasised of the lives sacrificed, our unsung brave heroes and service men and women to ensure the freedom that we enjoy today.
“I make this impassioned appeal in light of the current breakdown and continued lawlessness and blatant abuse of the freedom, which I must say, is unfortunately taken for granted and not honoured”
The Governor General went on to highlight issues currently affecting our country including gender based and domestic violence, ongoing ethnic clashes in major urban and rural areas and unlawful land-grabbing of traditional lands.
He called upon the citizens in these trying times to be proactive in addressing these issues. By demonstrating unity and courage can Papua New Guineans build a tolerant, diverse and caring nation that upholds the freedom and principles our fallen heroes fought for.
