Madang’s Health Authority visits Karkar

Madang’s Health Authority, it’s executives, board members and clinical staff from the Madang’s hospital has recently travelled to Karkar to attend a commissioning ceremony at the island’s Lutheran Hospital.

The Madang Provincial Health Authority’s (MPHA) CEO, Fidelis Waipma travelled aboard the Melanesian Tourist Services’ (MTS) Kalibobo Spirit, with Dr. Martin Daimen, Dr Charles Kalana, Pastor Komora Salum, Maggie Pidik, Kikimbe Bernard, Joe Agavi and Modilon’s Orthopedical Doctor, Dr David Pahau.

The trip to Karkar was organized by MTS’ Managing Director Sir Peter Barter.

Dr Charles Kalana, a member of the MPHA board added that the people of Madang should be proud that their province was the first province to initiate a transparent and working Provincial Health system.
Sir Peter congratulated the Board on their appointment, but he also expressed great disappointment that it had taken so long for the PHA act to be established in Madang despite being the architect during his time in parliament.

Dr Edwin Tscharke established one of the first Church Health Worker schools in PNG and has grown to locations throughout Momas and the Highlands region as you move around Momase Sir Peter and through his foundation, the Melanesian Foundation, has in the past funded the reroofing of Gaubin Hospital, purchased several X-Ray Machines, Ultra Scanners and assisted with medical supplies and medivacs.

Sir Peter also added that during the Pandemic caused by COVID19, it is essential that any funds available are used in the best interest to undertake awareness and general testing of the virus.
